Our understanding of cellular mechanisms of atherogenesis provoked us to develop new approaches to antiatherosclerotic therapy. Theoretically there are at least four ways to prevent atherogenesis induced by modified LDL. First, prevention of LDL modification. Second, removal of modified LDL from blood. Third, prevention of modified LDL accumulation in arterial cells. And fourth, removal of excess lipids from cells. We have tried all four ways. The most appropriate was prevention of lipid accumulation.
