The review deals with the dif ferent a pects of de dritic cells (DCs) in atherogenesis. Implement tion of the effector functions of dendritic cells, expressed either in a tivation or su pression of i mune responses, depends on their tis sue microenvironment. The balance b tween inflammatory and anti-inflammatory ef fects of dendritic cells is mediated by regulatory T-cells as well. DC phenotypes are described for mature and precursor cells.
